8 December 2025 – Historic Metal Spinning Lathes from Switzerland Find a New Purpose
The CLASSIC department of Bitterlin & Partner INDUSOLUTIONS is currently exporting several rare metal spinning lathes manufactured by LEIFELD, originally built in the 1940s. For many decades, these machines were in operation at Moser-Baer AG, where they were used, among other things, to produce the housings of the famous SBB railway station clocks. Hardly any other product embodies Swiss precision and traditional craftsmanship as impressively as these iconic timepieces.
After undergoing comprehensive technical refurbishment, the historic spinning lathes are now leaving Switzerland and heading to Germany and Poland. There, they will continue to be used in high-quality lamp production, once again fulfilling demanding tasks. In this way, not only is their functionality preserved, but their industrial heritage is kept alive.
How does a metal spinning lathe work?
A metal spinning lathe shapes rotating metal discs into precise, rotationally symmetrical components:
- The disc is clamped and set into rotation.
- A spinning tool gradually presses the material against a forming mandrel.
- The metal conforms exactly to the contour, creating the finished workpiece – such as lampshades, reflectors, or clock housings.

On 11 July 2025, AF Dachtechnik AG in Sarmenstorf (AG) will receive a used Jorns NORMA Line 100-125 SM CNC400A-6 – supplied by Bitterlin & Partner INDUSOLUTIONS, who specifically purchased the machine from a customer inventory. The goal: a fast, plannable, and technically flawless solution for AF Dachtechnik’s production expansion.

On 14 January, our four-member team had the opportunity to conduct site visits at two renowned clients: Pilatus and RUAG Aerospace.
